The Southeast Iowa Multi-County Solid Waste Agency is working on a deal to swap land with a couple of its neighbors.
Jefferson County Supervisor Dick Reed reported on SEMCO?s plans to acquire land during this morning?s supervisors meeting.
Reed said the waste agency is looking to exchange land it owns across the street from the landfill for land adjacent to the landfill. The goal, he said, is to develop a buffer around the landfill.
The Department of Natural Resources owns some of the land the agency hopes to acquire.
Reed, who represents Jefferson County on the three-county agency?s board, anticipates a public hearing on the land transfer next month.
In other business, the supervisors discussed the Heartland Highway Corridor agreement.
