Semi driver suffers injuries in rollover near Batavia

BATAVIA – The driver of a semi-truck had to be transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for injuries suffered in a rollover accident near Batavia on Thursday, Jan. 8.
According to a news release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a single vehicle rollover at the intersection of Highway 34 and Dewberry Avenue just east of Batavia at around noon that day. Upon arrival, deputies found the semi on its top in the south side of the eastbound lane. The truck’s driver was pinned inside the vehicle, and had to be extricated by mechanical means.
“As a result of the crash, the driver suffered from serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Jefferson County Health Center, and later transported to the University of Iowa Hospital,” read the news release.
The news release did not identify the driver, and stated that the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation into the accident.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Batavia Fire Department, Fairfield Fire Department, Libertyville Rescue, Jefferson County Ambulance, Fairfield Police Department, Jefferson County Dispatch and RPM Towing. All emergency personnel had left the scene by 2:44 p.m. that day.
