Semi hits car in Hy-Vee parking lot last week

An SUV that approached a backing semitractor and trailer too closely was hit in the entrance of the parking lot of Hy-Vee in Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
Allen King, of Hickman, Neb. was driving a semitractor and trailer owned by American Builders Contractors and was truing to back up into the Hy-Vee parking lot entrance on S. Prairie Ave. when Lauren Day, of Chicago, Ill. approached too closely while driving a silver 2004 Pontiac Vice SUV.
A witness said the road was clear when the semi started to back up and his flashers were on and the trailer was sounding a backup audible sound. When the SUV approached, King was unable to see the SUV in the road.
There was no damage to the semitrailer. Damage to the SUV was to the front passenger side fender area and is estimated to be $3,000 in damage.
There were no injuries.
The Mt. Pleasant Police Department responded to the call.
