A semi tractor trailer following the designated detour route established due to the construction on Washington Street struck a tree at the corner of Henry and Main streets yesterday morning.
At approximately 10:13 a.m., April 18, the Mt. Pleasant Police Department was dispatched to the 200 block of Main Street.
Upon investigation, it was determined that a 2005 Freightline Semi, owned by Bluff Creek Trucking LLC. of Albia and operated by David Solmenson of Albia, was attempting to make a left hand turn from the 200 block of North Main Street to the 100 block of West Henry Street.
During the left hand turn, the top right corner of the trailer struck a tree on the northwest corner of the intersection, causing severe damage to the trailer full of cargo.
Due to the angle of the tree branch and the semi trailer, the semi was pinned and unable to move. The collision caused a temporary closing of the intersection yesterday morning.
A separate semi trailer was brought to the scene of the collision, where the load of Pioneer seed corn was placed onto the undamaged trailer. Once the load was removed, the damaged trailer was removed from the scene by Breuer Wrecker Service.
Damages to the semi trailer were estimated at $12,000.
No injuries were reported at the scene.
Breuer Wrecker Service and Quality Equipment of Mt. Pleasant assisted at the scene.
