A semi vs. tractor accident on Highway 218 yesterday morning resulted in about $20,000 damage, estimates State Patrol Officer Andy Ward, who responded to the collision.
A John Deere tractor, driven by a minor and pulling a hay wagon, was traveling southbound in the right lane on 218. A vehicle following the tractor made a sudden lane change, revealing the slow-moving tractor to David Smith, 56, from Park Forest, Ill., who was driving a semi. Smith applied the brakes but could not avoid colliding with the hay wagon.
The young tractor driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Henry County Health Center. The collision did significant damage to the front end of the semi and to the hay wagon.
The incident remains under investigation. No citations have been issued.
