Southeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging, Inc., is readying for the 31st Annual Senior Health Fair on Friday, Oct. 21, from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Persons 60 years of age and older or caregivers of any age who are caring for someone 60 years or older are encouraged to attend. This is an opportunity for persons living in Southeast Iowa to learn about the latest health information, talk with aging service providers, and catch up on all the resources to help them stay independent.
?Helping people to be proactive about their health choices through education is what the Senior Health Fair is all about,? said Dennis Zegarac, Executive Director of Southeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging.
The event will be held at Burlington?s Memorial Auditorium, 200 Front Street, with ample parking and SeiBus will have a van to shuttle participants from their car to the outside doors of the auditorium. If you wait by your car, they will stop and pick you up and also return you to your car.
There will be 70 displayers available to provide information and answer your questions as they provide relevant information to elders and their family caregivers. In addition, a number of health screenings at various displayers? tables are offered without charge and these include bone density, blood pressure, depression, blood sugar, oxygen saturation, balance and fall screenings, stroke risk, glaucoma, demonstration of polarized lens, adjusting eyeglasses, and diabetic foot screening.
In addition, a comprehensive blood screening for cholesterol (lipids) and glucose (blood sugar) by Great River Medical Center laboratory is being offered for a reduced fee from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
For accurate results, participants must fast for eight to 12 hours before the screening. Water, black coffee, plain tea is allowed; medications may be taken with water.
