FAIRFIELD – A shed in Fairfield caught fire early Saturday morning, though fortunately no injuries were reported.
The shed was located at 904 W. Hempstead Ave. near the intersection with North Ninth Street. According to information from the Fairfield Fire Department, a call came in at 12:13 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3 that the shed was on fire. Twelve firefighters responded and extinguished the fire, which destroyed all the contents of the two-story shed.
Fairfield Fire Chief Brett Ferrel said that, even though the shed is still standing, it was a total loss. After putting out the blaze, firefighters returned to the station at 1:42 a.m.
The fire department identified a wood burning stove in the shed, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Nobody was in the shed at the time of the fire. A neighboring building suffered damage when the fire got close enough to melt its siding.
James Barlow was listed as the resident at the property.
