Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office update the expenses for the destruction, damage, vandalism and theft charges reported Tuesday at Northeast Missouri Electrical Coop on Highway 34 near Batavia. Emergency dispatch received an alarm at 12:42 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a voltage alarm. Deputies report observing sparking and small flames inside the substation. Batavia Fire Department secured the scene and employees from Access Energy determined a ground wire was cut inside sometime between 12:35-12:41 a.m. Tuesday, causing the arcing and fire. A chain link fence had been cut in the southwest corner to gain access to the substation. Extensive damage was done to components of the substation and copper ground wire was stolen. The damages are: chain link fence, $300; substation voltage regulators, $39,000; mileage, hours plus 15 percent overhead, $2,514; overtime labor to repair, $2,700; regular time labor to repair, $7,272; repair sleeves, $15; 6-feet of copper $3 and copper ground wire stolen, $150. Total expenses are $51,954.
Chelsea R. Crocker of Centerville was cited for failure to maintain control and had an estimated $10,000 to her vehicle from a one-vehicle accident at 8:15 p.m. Thursday. She was driving a 2013 Dodge Journey SUV east on Highway 34 and said she reached for a water bottle near exit 210, lost control and struck a concrete barrier on the bridge that spans the BNSF railroad tracks.
