Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office responded to an accident at 6:27 p.m. Monday on Highway 34/163. Lawrence Grover Wilson Jr. of Des Moines was driving a 1994 Ford Ranger pickup truck east on the highway approximately a half-mile west of Pine Avenue. He said he went off the road onto the shoulder, lost control and his vehicle struck a home at 2452 Highway 34. No injuries were reported. The home has an estimated $2,000 in damages, the vehicle, $1,000. Wilson was cited for failure to maintain control.

Two Batavia residents reported at 5:03 p.m. Monday the theft of tools from a garage in Batavia, taken sometime between 8 a.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Monday. Missing are a Ridgid brand 12-inch double compound sliding miter saw valued at $700; its handle has been repaired with a piece of metal, and a Hobart 110 volt mig welder model 345, valued at $395.
