FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield City Council approved a bid Monday from Fairfield company Simpleray to install an electric vehicle charging station near the city’s downtown.
The company’s winning bid of $3,900 will go toward installing a charging station at the parking lot east of the Fairfield Fire Station at the corner of Second Street and Briggs Avenue. It would be the fourth electric vehicle charging station in Fairfield.
The charging station will occupy two parking spaces once installed. Though the city will be responsible for maintaining the station, the cost of the electricity will be borne entirely by the user.
The city received a grant from the Iowa Department of Transportation that will cover 90 percent of the cost of an electric vehicle charging station.
This parking lot east of the Fairfield Fire Station at the corner of Second Street and Briggs Avenue will be the home of a city-owned electric vehicle charging station. (Andy Hallman/The Union)
