Single vehicle accident on 218 Saturday morning

One person was taken to the hospital following a single vehicle accident early Saturday morning.

Natalie Yelton, of North Augusta, South Carolina, was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry in the northbound lane in the 2100 block of Highway 218 at 6:53 a.m. on Saturday, April 6. The driver reported she was talking to a passenger and not paying attention when her vehicle left the traveled portion of the road and struck the shoulder area, causing her to lose control.

The vehicle skidded across both lanes before entering the northbound ditch. The vehicle continued to skid while in the ditch before eventually striking a tree and coming to a rest.

The driver was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Moore's Towing responded and towed the vehicle. Ainsworth QRS, Ainsworth Fire, Washington County Ambulance and Washington County Rescue all responded.
