MT. PLEASANT - Anyone who missed Small Business Saturday on Nov. 29 will be happy to hear: the event has been extended until Dec. 6.
According to a Facebook post from Main Street Mt. Pleasant, for every $10 spent at participating businesses, a ticket will be issued for the Shop Small Win Big Grand Prize drawing. The prize will be given out at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6. All those with tickets must be present for the drawing to be eligible for the prize.
On Saturday, Nov. 29, Main Street Mt. Pleasant hoped to draw customers to local businesses, by offering this lucrative raffle. However, the same day, the state of Iowa experienced its first major snows of the season. The National Weather Service urged people to stay home. Roads became icy and dangerous, with dozens of accidents reported on I-80 alone. Henry County received over 6 inches of snowfall, and many businesses closed early. There couldn’t be a worse time for a promotional event.
But, with this extension of the program, the businesses of Mt. Pleasant can try again. With no snow expected until Sunday and snowplows largely having cleared main thoroughfares, Main Street’s promotion has a decent chance at drawing in the hoped-for business.
