Snow parking restrictions

WASHINGTON - With the possibility of snow Tuesday into Wednesday, it is a good time to plan for off-street parking options.
Washington's snow emergency ordinance limits on-street parking during a declared snow emergency to give plows access to clear the entire street during extreme winter storms.
Residents should plan for an off-street parking option should the mayor declare a snow emergency.
Washington City Ordinance 69.13 reads, 'In order to protect public safety and to provide access for emergency vehicles, no person shall park, abandon or leave unattended any vehicle on any public street, alley, or other declared area during any snow emergency proclaimed by the Mayor unless the snow has been removed or plowed from said street, alley, or area and the snow has ceased to fall.”
The parking ban shall continue throughout the duration of the snow or ice storm including the 48-hour period after cessation of the storm except upon streets which have been fully opened.
'We appreciate our residents clearing their sidewalks and moving vehicles to allow for safe and efficient snow removal in our community,” Mayor Jaron Rosien said.
Snow emergencies will be relayed to local news media and publicized on social media. Snow emergencies may be extended or shortened when conditions warrant.
Vehicles found parked in violation of the snow emergency ordinance may be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense.
