Iowa Mission
of Mercy dentists to serve hundreds
DES MOINES ? Gov. Terry E. Branstad signed a proclamation recognizing the good works of Iowa?s dental professionals at the upcoming Iowa Mission of Mercy.
The fourth annual Iowa M.O.M. is Friday and Saturday at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City.
?The governor?s proclamation recognizes the ongoing commitment of Iowa dentists, hygienists and assistants to provide critical oral health care to the Iowans who need it the most,? said David Davidson, president of the Iowa Dental Association and a Des Moines dentist. ?This event is a shining example of how the dental professions can work together toward a common solution.?
The free two-day dental clinic includes cleanings, extractions and fillings. There are no patient restrictions, although patients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis.
?It is a testament to all who are involved with this incredible program that each year we have been able to grow the number of patients who are seen, increase the number of procedures done, as well as have the continued support of dental professionals across the state of Iowa,? Davidson said.
Since 2008, more than $2.5 million in free dental care has been provide to nearly 4,500 patients with the help of hundreds of lay volunteers. Previous Iowa Missions of Mercy events have been held in Waterloo, Newton and Cedar Rapids.
Iowa M.O.M. is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
