Softball tournament, parade highlight Batavia Days
BATAVIA ? The annual Batavia Days will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday featuring many activities for children and adults.

BATAVIA ? The annual Batavia Days will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday featuring many activities for children and adults.
The festivities will kick-off at 6 p.m. Friday with a co-ed softball tournament. An annual event, the slow pitch ?high ball? tournament will be held at the Batavia ballpark and will run all weekend. The entry fee is $125 per team, $25 of which goes back to the Batavia Days fund and $100 of which goes into the winnings pot. The top four teams will be paid. Proceeds from the concession stand benefit the Batavia Little League. To sign up or for more information about participating in the tournament, contact Andy Pearson at 919-2319.
The Batavia Public Library will host a Scholastic Book Fair from 5-7:30 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Batavia Community Center. If patrons buy one new book, they will receive a second book free of charge. Ten percent of the book fair sales will be designated for the library.
The Batavia Public Library also will host an open house and used book sale from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Used books for all ages will be for sale as well as a selection of VHS tapes including children?s tapes. All proceeds will benefit the Batavia Public Library. Donations of used books for the sale will be accepted. Those wishing to donate books should bring them to the library prior to the sale from 1-4:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.
Saturday, Batavia Masonic Lodge members will host a pancake breakfast from 6-9 a.m. at Kilwinning Lodge 198. The public is invited to attend. Free-will donations will be accepted.
An open class car show and music will be held all day Saturday in downtown Batavia.
A vendor and craft show is set from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday downtown on Main Street. People can still sign up for the vendor fair. For more information, contact Tycene Weber at 919-4442.
The Batavia Days Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. The parade is open to anyone who wishes to participate. Floats, tractors, horses, cars, people on foot, bicycles, and more are all acceptable. For more information, contact Weber.
Immediately following the parade on Saturday, the Batavia Fire Department will host the annual Firemen?s Barbecue. Volunteer firemen will cook and serve bratwursts, pulled pork sandwiches and hot dogs from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tables will be set up inside the Batavia Fire Station engine bays so people can eat in the shade.
The Batavia Lions will host a children?s pedal tractor pull Saturday the Pavilion. Weigh-in will begin at 11:30 a.m., with the contest to follow at noon. Youngsters will be weighed in on site and placed in categories by 10-pound increments. The lowest weight class will be for children weighing 20 to 29 pounds. This is a non-sanctioned pedal pull. Winners will be awarded trophies.
A tractor pull will be held Saturday near the Batavia BP gas station. Weigh-in will be at 11:30 a.m., with the pull to follow at noon. Participants should meet behind the gas station.
A Baby Contest, Decorated Ugly Potato Contest, Ugly Cake Contest and kids? games are set for noon Saturday at noon at the Batavia Community Center. Go to ?Batavia Days? on Facebook for contest rules.
Join the Batavia Days Committee for a summer supper from 4:30-7 p.m. Saturday in the community center. On the menu are pulled-pork sandwiches, corn on the cob, sliced tomatoes, lemonade and iced tea.
TTT will host an ice cream social from 4:30-7 p.m. Saturday in the Pavilion. A talent show will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday in the Pavilion, and a performance by the Clayton Brown Band will follow from 7-11 p.m. in the Pavilion.
The festivities will continue Sunday. The softball tournament will be going on all day long. At 11 a.m. Sunday, mud volleyball is planned at the Batavia BP gas station. Sign-up is at 10:30 a.m.; the cost to register is $35 per team. Teams must have three girls on the court at all times.
