The Mid-Prairie Community School District was part of a data security incident that resulted in the breach of student personal information.
The schools were notified of the Timberline Billing Services breach on Sept. 2, according to a press release.
Timberline provides Medicaid reimbursement billing services for covered services to 190 school districts in Iowa.
Timberline determined that an unknown person accessed their network between Feb. 12 and March 4. At the time certain files were encrypted and information was removed from the network, but they were unable to determine what information was removed, the release stated.
After an investigation it was determined that health information and personal information relating to students was present in the compromised files.
The information obtained included: name and Medicaid ID number, billing or claims information, date of birth, diagnosis or symptom information, medical record number, support service code and identification number and treatment information.
At this time, Timberline is unaware of any actual or attempted misuse of personal information due to the incident, according to the press release.
Affected students have been given free access to 12 months of minor identity monitoring through Experian.
Timberline has established a dedicated assistance line for individuals seeking additional information regarding this incident at 844-439-7669 between 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.
