Nov. 17, 2020 12:00 am
The Southeast Iowa Union has temporarily closed its offices to the public in Fairfield, Mt. Pleasant and Washington.
According to Publisher Matt Bryant, the move comes as COVID-19 cases have surged in the region and in response to Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds' recommendation for all businesses whose employees can work at home to do so.
As of Monday, nearly all of the staff was working from home.
'We hope our move, along with similar moves by other employers in the region will slow the spread of COVID-19,” Bryant said.
Due to remote access technology, the staff can assist many subscribers and advertisers via email and phone. On going services include:
' Starting or renewing subscriptions with credit cards.
' Processing and placing classified advertisements.
' Mailing newspapers to you if yours is missed.
' Mailing back issues of the paper to you with credit card payments.
The newspaper also has placed drop boxes at the courtesy counters of Hy-Vees in Fairfield, Mt. Pleasant and Washington where you may drop off payments, letters to the editor and other correspondence. Staff will check the drop boxes daily.
This will not affect your subscription or the publishing of the Southeast Iowa Union.
'We hope that by being extra cautious, we will keep our staff safe and healthy to continue producing your newspaper on time and to a level you expect,” Bryant said.
