Spaghetti dinner raises funds for sports, fine arts

Fairfield High School Activities Office, Best Western ? Fairfield Inn and the Lions Club collaborate for the fifth year, hosting a spaghetti dinner fundraiser, 5-8 p.m. March 18.

Admission is $7 to buy tickets from any Lions Club member or FHS students; it is $8 at the door.

?This is a great event put on by Best Western and our Lions Club,? said FHS Activities Director Jeff Courtright. ?I enjoy how the event brings the community together in a social setting.?

Scott Vaughan, Lions Club president, said the spaghetti dinner benefits spring sports and fine arts at the high school.

?Best Western cooks and donates the food, students set up the dinning area, serve food and help cleanup, and Lions Club members oversee and manage,? said Vaughan.

Courtright said the dinner raises more than $3,000 for the district?s extracurricular activities.

?Our students and staff members enjoy working the event,? he said. ?It give us a great opportunity to socialize, build relationships and to share our school pride with community members that show great support for our district.

?Half of the money raised is put into the athletic account and half is put into the fine art accounts,? said Courtright. ?The money has been used to allow the fine art and athletic programs to make purchases and to pay for services needed to have their practices, contests and performances.?

Fundraising events like this are major revenues for extracurricular accounts, said Courtright.

?These fundraising efforts play a huge role in allowing us to offer opportunities to our students,? he said.

Other major revenues for extracurricular activities come from donations and gate admissions collected at the activities.
