WASHINGTON — Deadlines are coming up for voters hoping to cast a ballot in out-of-season municipal elections in some Washington County cities.
With special elections planned for vacant city council seats in Washington and Brighton on Aug. 6, county officials say constituents have until Monday, July 22 at 5 p.m. to register as voters, or to have their forms in the mail and postmarked. Iowa also allows any eligible voter to register on election days, although the county encourages taking care of things early to reduce wait times at the ballot box.
Residents of the City of Brighton & City of Washington may register at the County Auditor’s Office at the Courthouse in Washington or any driver’s license station. Online voter registration is also possible at WashingtonCounty.Iowa.Gov.
The County Auditor’s Office is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, July 22 and Friday, August 2. Anyone with questions should contact the Washington County Auditor’s Office at (319) 653-7717.
The Washington County Auditor’s Office said candidates had until July 12 at 5 p.m. to get their paperwork filed with their respective city clerks, if they want to see their names on the ballot. A candidate list is expected to be made public shortly after that deadline.
