UPDATE: The Jefferson County Supervisors' special meeting Tuesday afternoon to sign a resolution requesting the dismissal of a petition to incorporate Cypress Villages subdivision was cancelled Monday afternoon.
The Jefferson County Board of Supervisors will hold a special meeting Tuesday afternoon to sign a resolution requesting the dismissal of a petition to incorporate Cypress Villages subdivision.
During this morning?s board meeting, supervisor Steve Burgmeier said he had received notification of a City Development Board meeting Thursday, during which a newly submitted petition for incorporation will be reviewed.
Because the county did not receive proper notification within the time frame set by the state, assistant county attorney Pat McAvan said the supervisors could oppose the petition based on its compliance with notification procedures. However, McAvan said the board made the same objection in May when the subdivision?s developers first filed a petition for incorporation, and at that time, the argument ?fell on deaf ears.?
Developer Dan Walker said he had acted according to information from the development board, which had advised him only 14 days of notice was necessary to get on its agenda, and the county should be notified within seven days of the petition?s filing.
McAvan expressed frustration with the state board, saying the members are not adhering to their own guidelines.
He agreed to prepare a resolution for the supervisors that will be reflective of the development board rather than the developers. The supervisors will meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday to consider the resolution.
Also this morning, Walker asked the board to consider organizing a discussion about tax increment financing with legal counsel from Des Moines.
