WASHINGTON — Organizers have a spread of activities planned in Washington’s central park Saturday, Oct. 8. After Relay For Life’s afternoon events, the Washington Chamber plans to start Hocus Pocus in the Park at 4 p.m.
“We have it earlier in October so it’s not right around the same time as all the other Halloween events that go on,” Washington Chamber of Commerce Event Coordinator Alisha Davis said. “We host hayrack rides, pony rides, face painting, we have businesses set up with activities and candy, a magician, a costume parade.”
At 7:30 p.m., Main Street Washington will screen Hotel Transylvania for its Movies on Main event.
Davis said the early October festivity was a hit for the community.
“This one has continued to draw big crowds, I think because it’s early and the weather’s usually nice,” she said. “Everybody’s kind of ready for Halloween already … and kids love getting in costumes, and they love candy.”
Davis said she was proud to host the autumnal event every year.
“Other towns just sometimes do trick-or-treat, and they don’t have these other activities going on,” she said. “We work hard to get sponsors for those things and make it a really fun-packed activity schedule.”
