Eighth grade girls beat Aldo Leopold
The Fairfield eighth grade girl?s basketball team dominated Burlington Aldo Leopold by the score of 63-6.
Aldo Leopold was not able to manage a basket until the third quarter. Ashtyn Drish led Fairfield shooters with 21 points. Lynsey Finney put in 10 points.
?Our girls really ran the floor well. We had a lot of steals and got points off of them,? Fairfield coach Derek Philips said. ?We shot the ball better tonight and picked up our intensity.?
Nicole Buch put in nine points. Amiah Neff and Ashley Pool eached chipped in with six points.
Fairfield?s next game is Monday at Keokuk.
Seventh grade boys continue dominating streak
The seventh grade boy?s basketball team defeated Fort Madison 50-35 Monday.
Austin Simpson scored 24 points and brought in 10 rebounds. Collin Breen scored 16 points. Cole Engle scored only two points, but made his presence felt with six rebounds and five assists.
The Trojans won the B game 24-6. Tristan Waugh, Jackson Weaton and Noah Stone all scored six points.
The A team won again Tuesday by beating Aldo Leopold 54-10. Carson Crile led the Trojans with 18 points and nine rebounds. Simpson scored 17 points and caught seven rebounds. Breen led the squad with eight assists.
The B team won 13-10. Reese Klehm led Fairfield in scoring with four points. Stone, A.J. Greiner, and Cooper Drish each scored two points.
Fairfield?s next game is 4:30 p.m. Monday at home against Keokuk.
Hawk Eye names All-District team
The Burlington Hawk Eye has named its Class A District 5 All-District football team for 2013.
Van Buren had many players make the team this season. The Warriors made their first playoff appearance in school history and lost in the first round to B-G-M, Brooklyn, who will be playing in the state championship game Thursday.
Aaron Clemens was named to the first team as a running back. The senior rushed for 787 yards and nine touchdowns. Quarterback Garrett Saunders was named as a utility player.
Senior linebacker Casey Jones was named to the first team defense. Jones recorded 78 total tackles, which was second on the team. Cornerback Brayden Starnes made 58 tackles and caught four interceptions. Mitch Garrels was named as a utility player.
Defensive back Brandon Plecker and linebacker Hunter Coffman were both named to the second team.
Braxton Bainbridge, Hunter Coffman, Wyatt Cole, Sam Dickinson, Luke Elfers, Mitch Garrels, Kolton Horn, Casey Jones, Dakota LaRue, Brandon Plecker, Garrett Saunders, Brayden Starnes, Jonah Stovall, Noah Stovall and Noah Whitten all made the All-Academic team.
