DES MOINES (AP) ? Des Moines police are looking for a man who may have taken an 88-year-old man's stamp collection valued at $15,000.
The Des Moines Register reports the man had been staying at the home of the elderly Des Moines resident, who noticed the collection was missing after the man left in February to live elsewhere. The elderly man also said his house guest had persuaded the man to write the guest checks totaling nearly $50,000.
Sgt. Jason Halifax says the suspect likely would face first-degree theft charges if he took the stamps. But Halifax says the suspect apparently didn't force the older man to write the checks, so there probably is little chance of prosecution in that instance.
