The Fairfield Start Somewhere walk started at noon from Howard Park with 170 participants walking south along Main Street through Central Park to Burlington Avenue, then east to Court Street and back to Howard Park. Many other groups around town including businesses and schools walked their own route, adding greatly to the total number of walkers around the city. As of Tuesday afternoon more than 144,000 had pledged to take the walk around the state, with many more no doubt participating without taking the pledge.
