MT. PLEASANT - Henry County residents will have an opportunity to chat with local legislators this upcoming Saturday at the first of several legislative update forums hosted by the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce.
State senator Rich Taylor and state representative Joe Mitchell will be in attendance to speak about the on-goings of the new legislative session, and field questions and concerns from constituents.
Kristi Ray, the executive vice president of the chamber explained that the event has been held in the community for many years.
'The chamber always hosts a breakfast with legislators during the session so people from the public can hear what's happening at the capitol. They cannot only learn but also share with their legislators,” Ray said.
In addition, Ray added that the forum is an opportunity for people to better understand the workings of the state government.
'It's always good for people to have input into the process. And sometimes it's just as important to listen. People may have what they believe is happening on an issue but need to hear from legislators about what's going on at the capitol and hear both sides of the story,” she said.
The first legislative update will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Chadwick Library on the Iowa Wesleyan Campus.
