The Pandelirium Steel Drum Ensemble is scheduled for a show at the Washington Area Performing Arts and Events Center at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, as part of the Performing Arts Series.
The group performs on instruments cut and hammered from 55-gallon oil barrels and their performances include a blend of musical styles ranging from traditional Calypsos and Soccas of Trinidad to Reggae, arrangements of popular songs, and jazz standards. The quartet is based in Iowa City and is made up of current and former members of the Pan-American Steel Drum Band from the University of Iowa. They have performed at numerous venues in Iowa, including the Iowa City Jazz Festival, Iowa Corn Daze, the Marion Swamp Fox Festival, and RAGBRAI.
The band was formed as a student group in 2007 to perform for various University of Iowa functions. Since then, it has evolved into a regular performing group that plays numerous events and private parties each year while still drawing members from current and former students at the University of Iowa.
Tickets are available through WashingtonAuditorium.org, and cost $20 for adults, $10 for college students, and are free for K-12 students.
