Steve Siegel plans run for state senate

OTTUMWA ? Wapello County Supervisor Steve Siegel has filed candidacy papers for the Iowa Senate in District 41.
?Voters in District 41 are ready for a new direction,? said Siegel. ?I?ve been out all over this district, talking with people in nearly every community and have found a significant level of dissatisfaction with the current state senator.?
?I don?t make these claims lightly,? Siegel added. ?I?ve been on the Wapello County Board of Supervisors for over fifteen years. I?ve got some experience when it comes to serving the communities of District 41.?
Siegel, a Democrat, has served on the Wapello County Board of Supervisors for the past 17 years. Siegel has worked as a union representative for AFSCME Council 61 and as a social worker for the state Department of Human Services. Siegel previously served on the board for the Ottumwa Day Care Center, he was a youth baseball and basketball coach, and has been active in organizations that advocate for social and economic justice.
Siegel has a bachelor?s degree from Grinnell College and graduate degrees from the University of Kansas and University of California at Berkeley. Siegel and his wife, Vicki, have been married for 23 years. They have four adult sons.
District 41 includes all of Davis and Van Buren counties; part of Wapello County, including the towns of Ottumwa, Agency and Eldon; and part of Jefferson County, including the towns of Batavia, Fairfield, Libertyville, Maharishi Vedic City, Packwood and Pleasant Plain.
