Word of Life Lutheran Church delivered food to the New Life Community Church food pantry Wednesday. All ages helped carry and sort the donations. With so many people in need this year due to a sluggish economy, churches in Fairfield are cooperating in a new food pantry located at New Life Community Church. In the initial stages, the pantry will only be open once a month as it builds inventory and discovers just what the needs are in the community. Susan Brown, director of the pantry, said, ?I just want to help people help others and for both to feel blessed. Our goal is to unite the churches in the community and get them involved.? Brown went on to say the pantry is not competing with The Lord?s Cupboard, but instead is supplementing what that entity is able to do. For example, she said that if someone went to The Lord?s Cupboard needing diapers and it didn?t have any, he or she could perhaps be directed to the food pantry. She said there are guidelines to be eligible for food and non-perishables, and potential recipients must be referred to the pantry.
