Students need a nickel more for lunch

WINFIELD ? With as well as things are going at the Winfield Mt. Union Community School District, the school board found very little reason to make many changes.

The only change made Wednesday evening was to increase lunch prices for the secondary students from $1.75 per lunch to $1.80. This change will keep the school at the state mandated minimum price.

In electing new officers, Robin Therme was re-elected to serve as school board president. Klay Edwards will also continue as vice president.

High school principal Dave Edwards reported the National Honor Society is getting ready for their annual fund-raisers of selling WMU clothing, cookie dough and carnations. The NHS students are also planning a fund-raiser allowing students to wear hats and teachers to wear jeans in the building for one day.

The money raised will go toward graduation chords for NHS members and induction costs, with the remaining amount donated to Ronald McDonald house and St. Jude?s Children?s hospital.

The reports from the elementary and secondary principals as well as the school superintendent reflected excitement about the start of this new year. ?I?ve been getting a lot of comments from people in the community about how well our school system is running,? noted Superintendent Pat Coen. ?We are doing the right things to meet the needs of our community.?

The next meeting will be held Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m.in the Media Center at the school.
