Mt. Pleasant eighth-grader Jena Stukerjurgen threw a no-hitter in the Panther softball team's first game at the Davis County round robin tournament Tuesday as Mt. Pleasant (5-5 overall) went 2-1 at the tourney.
Stukerjurgen (2-0) struck out seven and allowed one run during Mt. Pleasant's 12-1 game one win over host Davis County. Mt. Pleasant held a 4-1 lead in the third inning before pushing six runs across home plate in the fourth to blow the game open.
Rebekah Kimzey was three-for-four with an RBI against Davis County, followed by Sami Goble who went two-for-four with a double and two RBIs. Allie Beaber chipped in a two-for-four and two RBI performance in game one, while Elizabeth Lambert went two-for-four with an RBI.
In game two, Eddyville-Blakesburg shut out the Panthers in a 2-0 loss. Sami Goble took the loss on the mound for Mt. Pleasant, allowing two runs and five hits with one strike out. Leslie Taylor, Kelsey Smith and Barbara Brau had the three hits for Mt. Pleasant in the loss.
After the shut out in the second game, Mt. Pleasant rebounded in a big way in game three with a 14-0 shut out rout of Central Lee. Stukerjurgen earned her third win of the season, allowing four hits in the win. The Panthers batted through its lineup in the fourth inning, scoring seven of its total runs in the inning; the team went through the lineup again in the fifth, driving in another six runs.
Beaber led the Panthers at the plate with a three-for-four performance, hitting two doubles and an RBI. Taylor was three-for-three against Central Lee, followed by Brau who was two-for-two with an RBI in the win.
The Panthers host the Mt. Pleasant Classic this afternoon, starting at 1 p.m. at East Lake Park before traveling to Washington tomorrow for a varsity doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m.
