The Washington Area Chamber of Commerce is offering an opportunity for people to get out of their chairs and do something with them.
The Chamber is taking submissions for its chair-a-thon fundraiser.
“People can take an old chair, repurpose it, paint it or do anything they want to do with it,” Chamber events coordinator Alisha Davis said.
If an aspiring chair artist does not have a chair to work on, they can find one easily.
“The Chamber is partnering with Re-Purpose It in Washington,” Davis said. “People can buy old chairs there for $5-$10 for their projects.”
Once the chair masterpiece is finished, there is a $10 submission fee to enter the chair into the event.
The chair-a-thon auction will be held in Central Park in Washington at 6 p.m., July 29.
The chairs will be auctioned off with proceeds going toward painting a mural on the historic State Theatre in Washington.
Davis said that a group still is working on mural ideas to present to the Chamber’s Hotel-Motel Committee.
Once a design is selected, the mural will be painted on one of the theater’s outside walls.
Davis said that during the mural painting, there will be several art events in the community to go along with the mural painting.
“There will be things like yoga and painting classes,” she said. “It’s going to be fun.
“We’re excited to be able to celebrate the mural on the theater and art in Washington.”
