WINFIELD — National Nursing Home Week is set aside every year to emphasize the important role care centers play in communities.
Sunrise Terrace in Winfield plans some special events for residents, families, staff and the community, and they encourage people to come and visit and take part in their events.
The theme for 2023 is “Cultivating Kindness.” Sunrise is inviting friends, family members, and the community to join their friends at Sunrise for the following events:
Sunday, May 14, 2-4 p.m., Mother’s Day Social with punch and cookies in the dining room.
Monday, May 15, the Sunrise van will take to the streets with a traveling lemonade stand, treating people to free lemonade, iced tea, and cookies. (No squirt guns this year)
Tuesday, May 16, 5-7 p.m., the Onion Shoppe Food Truck will be set up in the front parking lot for anyone wishing to purchase a sandwich or other goodies. Sunrise will have free beverages, chips, and desserts. It was such a hit last year, that they will again have temporary tattoos, face painting, bags and balloon animals for a fun time for all.
Wednesday, May 17, JT’s Sips Drink Truck will be set up in the front parking lot from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. for anyone wishing to purchase a specialty drink.
Thursday, May 18, an omelet breakfast will be held in the Activity Kitchen, making delicious omelets to order from 7-9 a.m. You may eat here or order them to-go by calling 319-931-9753. There will be a freewill donation to the Activity Department.
Sunrise is collecting items for the local food pantry, Beacon of Light, as an act of kindness. Donations may be left by the Sunrise offices at the main entrance. Items most needed include chunky soups, creamed corn, peas, canned ravioli and spaghetti, saltines and graham crackers, but all nonperishables are welcome.
There are other special events planned for residents and staff over the week, including a baked potato bar, musician, sending out cards of kindness, an outdoor barbecue, and a wrap party to celebrate surviving the hectic week.
If you are not familiar with Sunrise, this is a great opportunity to witness what the home has to offer. Sunrise is proud to be consistently ranked among the top 10 care centers in the state of Iowa. They have skilled suites and a therapy gym to help people transition from hospital to independent living again, offer resident-centered care and quality of life for those needing long term care, and a wide range of employment and volunteer opportunities. Come and visit Sunrise Terrace and help Cultivate Kindness by sharing your time with the special people who live and work there.
