The Henry County Supervisors approved a quote for a three-year rock supply for the county during a meeting Tuesday, July 30.
Preston Ready Mix & Quarry, of Preston, submitted the winning quote at a price of $4.10 a ton for a total of $608,850. The quote was for a total of 148,500 tons of crushed rock that is taken to the county quarry and stockpiled for future use.
Henry County Engineer Jake Hotchkiss said Preston Ready Mix & Quarry has been awarded the contract the last two times the county has crushed rock and that the price has gone up slightly since. He said in 2016, the price was $3.93 a ton.
In regard to construction updates, piling on the south side of the W55 Franklin Avenue Bridge has been completed and the contractor is working on piling for the north side now. Most of the dirt work on the north side has been completed and the grading contractor will be switching to the south side later in the week to begin placing fill.
Abutments for the J20 bridge project, near Lowell, are being worked on by the contractor this week.
White Oak Road, between 208th Street and 205th Street is closed and crews are working to begin excavating to replace the culvert. Once that is accomplished, work will continue with grading and stabilizing the ditches.
