Additional funds were approved for a new ambulance.
The Jefferson County Board of Supervisors Monday approved a $700,000 general obligation loan to finance a courtroom renovation, the courthouse parking lot reconstruction and a new ambulance.
Supervisor Dick Reed said bid packages for the courtroom renovation and parking lot reconstruction at the courthouse and Department of Human Services should be ready by late September or early October.
The loan was broken down to $600,000 for the construction work and $100,000 for the ambulance. However, the cost of the ambulance is expected to exceed the $100,000.
The net interest cost of the loan is 2.46 percent with principal payments beginning June 1, 2011. Four payments of approximately $180,000 will be made annually until June 1, 2014. Prior to the June 1, 2011, initial principal payment, the county will make payments of more than $20,000 in interest.
