The Henry County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution for authority to relocate monuments in Oakland Mills.
The memorials located on the piece of land in question are two memorial benches, a flag pole memorial and a historical monument.
A private individual was sold the land in 2017.
The resolution states that “Henry County retained the right and sole authority to remove certain memorial benches, flag pole memorial and historical monuments upon request of the owner of the real estate and whereas the Henry County Board of Supervisors determined that maintaining the memorials and monuments in their current location on private property may adversely affect or impede desirable improvements to the Adjusted Parcel.”
With the monuments being in a flood plain, they may be in the way to any landscape work that needs to be done to make the area sustainable to regulations that fall under the counties flood plain rules.
The resolution authorizes the Henry County Conservation Director, at the direction of the Henry County Conservation Board to relocated said monuments to an alternate location that is suitable and located on county ground, while still in the Oakland Mills area.
