Henry County is planning to vacate some roads in the unincorporated towns of Lowell, Swedesburg and Trenton.
County supervisors set a public hearing for 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, on the road vacations, which also includes a portion of 265th Street near the curve at Faulker?s Access.
Jake Hotchkiss, county engineer, who recommended the road vacations, said they involve roads ?that are basically all alleys and (vacation) has been requested by adjacent property owners.?
Supervisors, during their regular meeting Tuesday, also approved the purchase of a soil conditioner. Total cost of the conditioner is $7,288.40 but the county is hoping that 75 percent of the cost ($5,830.72) is funded by a grant from the Living Roadway Trust Fund.
?It is an attachment that fits onto the skid loader,? Hotchkiss explained. ?It is a nice tool to have in our inventory. It just makes it better for seed bed preparation.?
In his report on construction updates, Hotchkiss said that the replacement deck is being poured for the Ash Avenue bridge project.
Hotchkiss also noted that one mile of grading, seeding and mulching on 260th Street has been completed and the remaining mile of the project should be finished this week. The road will be opened to the public as soon as work is finished.
Work by the secondary roads crew last week included seeding and mowing operations; working on a shoulder-pulling project on 150th Street beginning at Oasis Avenue; fixing broken tile in the county right-of-way; and installing driveway extensions in Center Township.
Supervisors meet again in regular session Thursday, Sept. 8, at 9 a.m. in the Henry County Courthouse.
