The Jefferson County Board of Supervisors waived property tax penalties and interest on three unclaimed parcels Monday morning.
Jefferson County Treasurer Terri Kness has identified three pieces of property with unknown owners and is working to resolve the issue with the properties? likely owners. She asked the board to waive the penalties and interest, dating as far back as 2000, as an incentive to the landowners.
Kness told the board the three parcels in question are the only unclaimed parcels in the county with any value. Any others are most often the result of changes in a riverbed, she said.
Kness also reported her satisfaction with her office?s move into the former supervisors? office, from where she is better able to oversee and assist in both the treasurer?s office and the automotive department.
In other business, county engineer Tom Goff told the board the estimated cost of replacing two wooden bridges with box culverts on Polishville Road/136th Street is $350,000.
Both bridges have been limited to 12-ton loads and qualify for federal funding. Goff will figure the estimate into the county?s plan for bridge repairs.
