MT. PLEASANT — David Hudnall, 31, of Mt. Pleasant is set to be arraigned on July 26, at 8 a.m. on charges stemming from a June 29 arrest.
Hudnall is charged with assault on a peace officer, carrying weapons and interference with official acts causing injury, all aggravated misdemeanors. Another charge of possession of methamphetamine is a Class D felony.
The county attorney’s office said there are no changes to those charges at this time.
The June 29 arrest of Hudnall by a Mt. Pleasant police officer was filmed by bystander and posted on YouTube, leading to comments accusing the officer of using excessive force because the video shows an officer hitting Hudnall repeatedly.
However, the YouTube video that shows the arrest does not show the entire encounter between Hudnall and the unnamed officer.
Police Chief Lyle Murray said last week he has requested an investigation into the arrest by an outside agency. He said there is video of “the body worn camera.” That video has not been made public.
Murray is out of the office this week. No one else in the department is authorized to speak on the case.
The police department has not released the names of the officers involved in the arrest, including the officer that was seen striking Hudnall.
