Suspect who robed US Bank Friday still at large

Sep. 25, 2018 7:17 am
A man who robbed US Bank at 301 E. Washington Street in Mt. Pleasant Friday still is at large.
The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money. No weapon or note was displayed at the time of the crime at 11:34 a.m. Sept. 14. He fled in a pickup truck northbound from the bank.
The Mt. Pleasant Police Department still is investigating the crime and working with several other agencies. The crime is technically Theft in the 2nd Degree, not a robbery.
At the time of the robbery, the Mt. Pleasant Community School District went into their 'stay-put” procedure for all schools in the district. There was no immediate threat to the schools, but the district chose to go into stay put as a precaution.
All outside doors of school buildings were locked to limit the flow of traffic. All outside activities were halted and students were taken inside. Students were not locked down in their classrooms. They were able to move from class to class.
Mt. Pleasant District Superintendent John Henriksen said at the time of the robbery around noon on Friday, he was finishing a meeting with the administrative team. Henriksen was able to get additional information from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department and sent principals back to their buildings with stay put instructions.
The scheduled early out on Friday was not impacted by the stay put procedure, but parents were sent an emergency notice requesting they pick up their kids or meet them at bus stops if possible. For students whose parents were unable to do so, school personnel and even Henriksen himself walked students from the bus stops to their homes.
'That way, they wouldn't be walking home unattended,” Henriksen said. 'There were some kids who had a few blocks to walk home.”
Overall, Henriksen said he thought the stay put procedures went well. 'I appreciated the Mt. Pleasant Police. When I asked them for information to try to make decisions, they gave me everything I could. That works great when you can get good information, get an update and know the status of things. Then you can make good decisions,” he said.
Anyone who saw the suspect Friday or who has any knowledge is asked to contact the police department at 319-385-1450.
