Taking scary to a new level
WASHINGTON - For 20 years, the Bodkin family has been decorating for Halloween a little more than your average house.
At 1103 E. Washington St., people driving by can see a variety of zombies, creatures and clowns. Characters from horror movies stare off into the distance from the expansive porch while spiders linger on the bushes.
Angie Bodkin said they started in 2000 for their son, who was 3 at the time. The collection was much smaller then, because they lived in Tipton and didn't have the space they do now.
Every year, the family buys new characters and items. As their first son got older, he got involved in the fun, Bodkin said. Their other two sons also love the decorations.
When they moved to Washington in 2011, the house was perfect for decorating.
Bodkin said people stop at the house to look at the decorations and take pictures, some from other states. While some people love the decorations, others actively avoid them.
Many of the decorations are dressed up mannequins, while others are mechanical.
Bodkin said she would love recommendations from people as to other character or decorations to add in the future.
