Thankful for local labyrinths

To the editor:

In this season of gratitude for the unfolding of our spiritual lives it is nice to know the Fairfield area has four labyrinths.

Labyrinths are best known for being in the main floors of the great Gothic Cathedrals in Europe, the most famous of which is Chartre Cathedral outside Paris. A recent count in Denver, Colorado, found more than 100 labyrinths there and the suburban city of Littleton is building a public labyrinth in a park.

The Mennonite campground is the first in our area, north of Brighton. The Presbyterian Church has a fine portable labyrinth. Next is the Methodist Church which has an outdoor labyrinth in the space on the north side of the parsonage, which is there for public use 24/7 since it has a bright night light for those walking after dark. Finally, the fine Waldorf Christian school has a labyrinth.

Labyrinths are becoming more in use as we need to know our deeper inner spiritual selves. It is quiet ? no talking, selling or shoulds ? no one outside suggesting what to do or be. It is a place of growth and healing. It is a door to what is needed to open to our inner guide much needed in an ever more volatile and lost world.
