The Arc of Jefferson and Nearby Counties will hold its 32nd annual Super Skate on March 16-17 at the Sunset Roller Rink on Glasgow Road in Fairfield.
The event raises funds for persons who are intellectually or developmentally challenged.
The 10-hour marathon will begin at 10 p.m. Friday, March 16 and continue until 8 a.m. Saturday, March 17.
Registration will begin at 9 p.m. on Friday night, but skaters may register to skate as late as 6:30 a.m. the next morning.
Persons of all ages are eligible to skate, with skaters under age 18 requiring the signature of a parent, guardian or responsible adult giving him/her permission to skate.
Skaters must turn in all donations by the night of the Super Skate when registering; however, donations will be accepted from and credited to any skater who wishes to turn in his or her money prior to the event to Darlene Vorhies at 306 W. Harrison Ave., Fairfield ? not to the rink.
Skaters are encouraged to have sponsors pay by check payable to The Arc ? not the skater. Cash is discouraged to avoid concerns of stolen or lost money.
There will be no registration fee. All skaters must turn in a minimum of $25 to participate and there is a fee for renting rink skates.
A cash prize will be given to the skater who has the most sponsors. Skaters who have skated three of the last five Super Skates and continue by skating this year will receive a ?loyalty? gift.
Prizes donated by area individuals and merchants will be given away during hourly drawings as an incentive to skate the entire event; however, skaters are reminded that it isn?t necessary to skate the entire 10 hours ? even one hour is ample.
Anyone who prefers not to sponsor a skater but wishes to donate may do so by making a check payable to The Arc and mail to Brian Simmons, 1334 Nipa Blvd., Fairfield, IA 52556.
