For more than 40 years, The Fellowship Cup in Mt. Pleasant has been making Christmas dinner a reality for many of those in need during the holiday season.
The Fellowship Cup will be doing a regular pantry on Thursday, Dec. 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a special holiday distribution on Saturday, Dec. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon.
“There is no sign up, but those in need will want to call, because there is a specific time to pick up based on last name,” said Fellowship Cup Executive Director Ken Brown. “That way, we don’t have a lot of people in line and we can get everyone served.”
According to Brown, people will leave with a traditional meal to put on the table for the holiday. They will have turkeys or hams available with all of the customary side items, including a pumpkin pie for dessert.
The organization will also have health kits, blankets and cold weather accessories available at this time.
“It’s a special day where we can serve the community going into the holiday,” said Brown.
The group which provides food, clothing and shelter to the under-served, aided approximately 110 households for Thanksgiving, and expects to serve 150 households for the Christmas season.
The Fellowship Cup Food Pantry serves both individuals and families in need throughout Henry County once per week. The pantry cannot sustain full grocery needs, but it can accommodate a little help along the way by supplementing essentials.
