FAIRFIELD — The Lord’s Cupboard in Fairfield will host a 40th anniversary celebration from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, June 1.
The event is part of the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours series. The Lord’s Cupboard’s Executive Director Susan Frey said the anniversary celebration will give the food pantry a chance to thank the community for its support during the last four decades, and to honor special guests Norma and Dick Bogner for laying the foundation for The Lord’s Cupboard to get off the ground 40 years ago.
Refreshments will be available, and the public is invited to tour the building.
Frey said The Lord’s Cupboard is as busy as ever in its 40th year, and that it’s serving 165 families each week.
“We’ve been busier than normal in the last three months, and we’ve gotten a lot of new client applications,” Frey said. “The resources we receive from Hy-Vee, Walmart, Everybody’s and Radiance Dairy contribute so much, and they add to the staples that we can offer everyone. Through the generous donations from our community, from churches and individuals, we’re able to offer our clients so much.”
The Lord’s Cupboard will begin its LOAF program on June 5, which is a program designed to feed school-age children over the summer. Frey said The Lord’s Cupboard sees an uptick in usage in June, then again in September, and again right before the winter holidays.
The Lord’s Cupboard has about 20 regular volunteers, plus about a dozen board members.
“We can always use more volunteers,” Frey said. “If someone is looking for a way to give back, this is a great way.”
