WASHINGTON - Four students and 18 masks will line the stage this weekend for the Washington High School's fall play.
'The Tempest” by Shakespeare was chosen by Director Brett Pierson.
Pierson said it is a fun show with many unique parts.
Prospero, Ariel, Cerces and other characters will appear on stage in the form of masks. Keegan Colby, Bailey Rees and Levi Appelgate will each be playing four different characters and Molly Klinzman will be playing six.
The masks were created by Lisa Hughes and Virginia Bordwell.
'They allow the students to switch between characters,” Pierson said.
The students have been practicing for eight weeks. The biggest challenge for the students has been mastering the different character's emotions and voices.
'It's definitely one of the more challenging shows,” Klinzman said.
Despite the challenge, Colby said it is a fun show.
Plans for the show have been scaled back following the governor's announcement of additional COVID-19 restrictions. The play will be shown at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at the Washington Area Performing Arts and Events Center. The 2:30 p.m. Sunday matinee has been canceled. Each performer will receive two tickets. There will be no tickets sold to the public. Admission is free with the tickets.
The show is broken up into two parts with an intermission between.
