MT. PLEASANT - Three were transported to the Henry County Jail Wednesday after two pounds of methamphetamine, two pounds of heroin, one pound of suspected fentanyl, a hand gun and marijuana were found in the car they were traveling in.
On Wednesday, Oct. 23, at approximately 3:03 p.m., a Mt. Pleasant Police officer stopped a vehicle in the 1200 block of North Grand Avenue in Mt. Pleasant. The occupants of the car, Marco Rubio, Julia Robertson and Ismael Montez, all from Tuscon, Arizona, provided false information about where they were headed by saying they were going to either St. Louis or Chicago.
After a K-9 alerted for possible drugs in the vehicle, officers performed a search. All three were arrested and transported to the Henry County Jail where they were held pending arraignment.
All were charged with possession with intent to deliver more than five grams of methamphetamine, a Class B felony, and failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a Class D felony.
According to a news release from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, the investigation still is ongoing. The department was assisted by the Iowa Department of Narcotics Enforcement, the Iowa State Patrol and the Henry County Sheriff's Office.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
