Three candidates file papers for MP School Board seat

Three Mt. Pleasant residents have filed nomination papers for the District 3 seat on the Mt. Pleasant School Board, according to Henry County Auditor Shelly Barber.

Candidates include Karl Braun, Jennifer Crull and Stephanie Zinkle.

The board opening was created when Melodee Yaley resigned in May due to her relocation to Texas.

Zinkle was appointed to the board. However, she was not administered the oath of office in the time period specified in Iowa Code. Therefore, the appointment was nullified.

Patrons of the school district will elect the new board member during the Sept. 9 school bond referendum election. In Mt. Pleasant, school directors run by district but are elected through an at-large vote of school district residents.
