The Tigers traveled to Central Lee HS to take on the Hawks on June 26. The Tigers got two singles from Morgan Jones and Camryn Lair, while Sophie Malott hit a double. Lair had the only RBI on the night, as Kennedy Herrick scored in the 5th. Sophie Malott pitched 5.2 innings and took the loss in the Hawks’ 11-1 win over the Tigers.
The Tigers’ final regular season game was also Senior Night, as they played the Danville Bears on June 27. The Seniors that were celebrated were Alex Farley, Kaitlyn Lee, Camryn Lair, Natalie Burden, and Emma Nye.
It was a bittersweet night all around as this was the final home game for these five girls and the final score was 8-6 in Danville’s favor.
The Tigers scored a run in the first, third, and fifth inning, and three in the sixth, but it just wasn’t enough to pull out a victory.
There were no individual stats available at press time.
The Tigers started post season play on Friday, June 30. They faced the Holy Trinity Crusaders. Tied after the first inning at one all, the Crusaders scored nine in the next four innings. But never giving up, the Tigers scored four in the last two innings. It wasn’t enough to change the outcome, but the Tigers fought until the end. The final score was HTC-10/NL-5. Considering that they had played HTC just 10 days earlier and lost 12-0, this was certainly a moral victory!
First-year coach and former Tiger standout Emily Parks summed up the season, “Our season has come to an end. The end of my first year as a head coach. Our wins were minimal but that doesn’t compare to the progress we made throughout the season. My biggest thing of the season was giving 110% at all time. I believe that a majority of the time that is what they gave on the field. It is frustrating losing but they showed up day after day to play. I’m not a good loser, I told the girls that, probably the worst loser & most competitive person you’ll meet. But being the person that had to keep them involved in every play and pick them up if they were down, was very humbling and I learned as much from them as they did from me. I couldn’t be more proud of this group, thank you for the memories this year! Can’t wait for next year already! The seniors will be missed for sure!”
