The Iowa Wesleyan College men?s soccer team picked up its fifth win of the season on Thursday night, 2-0, as it faced the Principia College Panthers.
The teams started the game 30 minutes ahead of schedule to try to beat out the monsoon-like weather that hit the area, but the first 30 minutes was played in a driving rainstorm.
The Tigers didn?t let the rain affect them as they struck early to take a 1-0 lead. Michel Fagundas scored what would end up as the game winner just seven minutes into the match.
Fagundas found the back off the net for his second goal of the year, while Caio Da Costa recorded his ninth assist on the season.
In the second half, the Panthers turned up the pressure. Just before the game was halted due to thunder and lightning just 13 minutes into the half, the Panthers found the equalizer. However, it was called back for offsides by the Panthers, and the Tigers held on to their 1-0 lead.
After a 45-minute delay in the game, the Panthers continued to keep the pressure on. Again, a Panthers? goal was nullified after being called offsides.
In the 83rd minute, the Tigers struck again to seal the victory. Tyler Pyle scored his third goal of the year off Fagundas? third assist this season.
Spencer Pfief made 10 saves in net on the night.
The Tigers return to action on Sunday, Oct. 28, in a match that was rescheduled after being rained out earlier in the year. The Tigers will host Robert Morris University-Springfield, with the game scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m.
