EDDYVILLE ? Fairfield boys? track kept running and the times kept dropping at the Ike Ryan Classic in Eddyville Thursday.
Fairfield was held winless at the relays but set four more personal bests on the day, scoring 35 points and finishing sixth out of seven teams. Knoxville won the meet with 140 points and Mount Pleasant was second with 105.
The highlight of the night for Fairfield head coach Brian Dunlap was the 4x100. The senior foursome of Max Johnson, Braz Johnson, Zach Vivier and Corbin Harwood set a season best in the race, finishing in 44.38 seconds to go from Drake Relays ?bubble team? to solid entry in their final chance.
?They needed to perform and run faster to get to Drake, and they stepped up and ran a great time,? said Dunlap. ?I was really pleased to see these four deserving seniors get the opportunity to make it happen.?
The 80 fastest 4x100 teams in the state qualify for the Drake Relays, and Fairfield was sitting at 77th prior to the meet. The quartet is now 40th fastest on the qualifying list.
The Trojans also had one runner-up and two other third-place finishes Thursday.
Harwood set another season best in the 110-high hurdles, finishing runner-up to Mount Pleasant?s Brandon Moorman in 15.43 seconds. Harwood?s teammate Jonny Swanson finished fourth in the race at 15.88.
The two hurdlers joined Austin Francisco and Nick Jackson in the shuttle hurdle relay, and the consistent foursome grabbed third place with a season-best time of 1:02.70. The other bronze medal-winning relay included Kooper Dahlstrom, Dakota Nye, Riley Hammel and Alex Love in the distance medley (3:55.65).
The 4x800 relay of Hammel, Love, Vince Horras and Jordan Whitney scored another four points, finishing fourth in a time of 8:54.07.
In the field events, Jake Mineart was the Trojans? only placewinner with a fifth-place finish in the shot put (43? 0?).
Josiah Wilbur and Zane Richmond just missed scoring for the Trojans. Wilbur was seventh in the 400-hurdles (1:02.17) and Richmond set a personal mark of 5:13 in the 1,600-meter run to finish seventh.
Fairfield heads to Burlington for the Grayhound Relays today.
